A Small Flame

In the palm of my right hand
I hold a small flame
So thin
So pale
So dull
That apparently a light breath
Would be enough to extinguish it

I hold a small flame In my palm
I hold a small life In my palm
I hold my life In my palm

Netherveless
This very small flame
Resists unfailing
All the gusts of wind
All the downpours
It has the hardness of diamond
And the solidity of steel
For life has an extraordinary
Tenacity to continue living

I hold a small flame In my palm
I hold a small life In my palm
I hold my life In my palm

I feel it nevertheless so fragile
In my palm
And I clench my fist,
And the flame goes out

In the palm of my right hand
I hold a small flame
So thin
So pale
So dull
That apparently a light breath
Would be enough to extinguish it
